Many tax professionals tell us they like the convenience of using EFILE to file their clients' income tax and benefit returns. Well, did you know it's just as easy to file your clients' corporation income tax returns using your EFILE number and password?

Corporation Internet Filing provides immediate confirmation of receipt, including the Business Number and the name of the corporation. This results in faster, more accurate processing and faster refunds. It is easy, convenient, secure, confidential and environmentally friendly!

New in Corporation Internet Filing

As of October 2009, corporations with Scientific Research and Experimental Development claims can now Internet file.

The Canadian federal and Ontario provincial governments signed an agreement for the CRA to administer Ontario corporation tax for tax years ending in 2009 and later. This means that Ontario businesses will now be filing one tax return to cover both their federal and provincial tax obligations.

You can also file the harmonized T2 Corporation Income Tax Return (T2 return) electronically. As a result, you will save time and reduce your impact on the environment. You will also experience faster processing times and quicker refunds. Ask your software provider about the new Ontario-ready T2 return software packages for 2009.

Mandatory Internet filing for T2 returns

As announced in the 2009 federal budget statement, beginning with tax years ending after 2009, corporations with gross revenues of more than $1 million will be required to internet file their T2 Corporation Income Tax Return with CRA approved commercial software. Exceptions to this requirement include:

  • non-resident corporations;
  • insurance corporations;
  • corporations reporting in functional currency; and
  • corporations that are exempt from tax payable under section 149 of the Income Tax Act.

We encourage you to internet file all of your clients' T2 corporation income tax returns. Electronic filing not only increases the efficiency of government while delivering service and value to taxpayers but it also reduces the impact on the environment by eliminating the use of paper.
